My name is Svetlana Mesa. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Stony Brook, New York. I have two bachelor degrees in Psychology, one from Russia and the other from Baruch College, New York. I got my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hofstra University. I provide individual and relationship counseling for adults. My focus is on healthy relationships and sexuality.
My interest in becoming a therapist began when I noticed how many people have difficulty having or maintaining positive relationships and how often problems are not spoken about or cause everyday conflict. It made me wonder why many people continue to stay in unhappy or strained relationships. My experience volunteering at a suicide prevention hotline has strengthened my beliefs that a lot of people feel lonely, stuck or stressed out due to poor relationships but are unable to make changes or fail to seek help.
Relationships face difficult transitions and challenges, people change as well. Some people naturally know how to manage relationship problems but most need help or professional guidance.
You may choose to stay in an unhealthy relationship for financial reasons, children, abuse or fear of loneliness. You may have attempted multiple solutions that have not worked. You might have considered other options such as talking to a friend or reading a self-help book. Or it may be that you did not have a good experience being in therapy before.
I have helped thousands of people to make positive life changes! I believe that the quality of our relationships directly influences the quality of our lives. Positive relationships can be a source of purpose, love and support. Most people benefit from therapy during difficult points in their lives.
Therapy can become a valuable resource for you to handle everyday stress and see your problems from a different perspective. I want you to know that I am here for you. Learn more about me and what I do at healthyrelationshipsmft.com, or by following me on Facebook and Instagram.
